Thomas J. Henry Representing Hundreds of GM Recall Victims
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (April 11, 2014) — “My firm is representing 70 individuals and family members of individuals who died in crashes linked to recalled GM vehicles and 140 more that are living with injuries, serious injuries and catastrophic injuries,” stated Thomas J. Henry.

According to documents obtained by Congress, GM’s CEO Mary Barra knew about injuries linked to loss of power steering issues in certain recalled Chevy, Pontiac, and Saturn vehicles as early as 2011. A recall was not issued until March of 2014.
“Whether or not Mary Barra connected the steering issue to the ignition switch problem has yet to be determined, but the fact that she waited three years before issuing a recall for these defective steering wheels, which were already linked to injuries, shows a pattern of behavior by the New GM of delaying serious recalls at the expense of vehicle owners and the general public,” Thomas J. Henry stated.
THE POWER STEERING RECALL
1.3 million vehicles were recalled for power steering issues on March 31, 2014. Vehicles included in the recall include:
- Chevrolet Malibu: All model year 2004 and 2005, and some model year 2006 and model year 2008 and 2009 vehicles
- Chevrolet Malibu Maxx: All model year 2004 and 2005, and some 2006 model year
- Chevrolet HHR (Non-Turbo): Some model year 2009 and 2010 vehicles
- Chevrolet Cobalt: Some model year 2010 vehicles
- Saturn Aura: Some model year 2008 and 2009 vehicles
- Saturn ION: All model year 2004 to 2007 vehicles
- Pontiac G6: All model year 2005, and some model year 2006 and model year 2008 and 2009 vehicles
While this recall is separate and apart from the ignition switch recall of 2.2 million vehicles issued in February and early March of 2014, several vehicles were listed in BOTH recalls—including Chevrolet HHR (2009-2010), Chevrolet Cobalt (2010), and Saturn Ion (2004-2007).
Additionally, loss of steering power is a known side-effect of the ignition switch problems which has been linked to 303 deaths and countless other serious injuries.
MARY BARRA AND THE “NEW GM”
Mary Barra testified before Congress earlier this month regarding her knowledge of issues with the ignition switches in 2.2 million recalled GM compact cars. She has maintained that she only learned about ignition switch defects in December 2013/January 2014.
The ignition switch defects can cause loss of vehicle power, loss of power steering, and non-deployment of airbags. The recalled vehicles have been linked to 303 deaths and numerous other accidents and injuries.
