Money Raised During Thomas J. Henry’s Austin Elevates Events Enables 47 Students to Attend College
AUSTIN, TEXAS (OCT. 29, 2020) – Money raised as part of Austin Elevates, a recent charitable event organized and hosted by Thomas J. Henry, has enabled 47 new students to attend college as part of the St. David’s Neal Kocurek (SDNK) scholarship program. The program focused on developing the healthcare leaders of tomorrow with recipients seeking careers as nurses, doctors, pharmacists, and medical researchers.
Austin Elevates was a two-day community art and music experience created by Thomas J. Henry to celebrate the Austin community and benefit local non-profits SAFE Alliance, Superhero Kids, and St. David’s Foundation Fund. To make the event a success, Thomas J. Henry used his professional connections and celebrity status to recruit top entertainers, including Kygo, Daddy Yankee, DaBaby, and 88Glam, to perform a one-of-a-kind concert at the Austin 360 theater. Thomas J. Henry also commissioned world-renowned street artist Alec Monopoly to complete a mural in Austin’s booming downtown area.
More than 9,000 Austin residents were able to attend this once-in-a-lifetime event free of charge courtesy of Thomas J. Henry. The event was also attended by special celebrity guests committed to Thomas J. Henry’s cause, including DJ Quiz, Jennie Garth, Ashlee Simson Ross, Evan Ross, Khloe Terea Edwina Carla Issacs, Jameill Showers, and many others.
The event raised more than $160,000 for its beneficiaries which Thomas J. Henry personally matched, bringing the total amount to $327,720
Thomas J. Henry Continues Charitable Activities During COVID-19
Despite the effects COVID-19 has had on businesses across the globe, Thomas J. Henry has remained steadfast in his efforts to help his local and global communities. In fact, Thomas J. Henry understands that now, perhaps more than ever, people need to come together to assist and provide for those in need.
In the early days of COVID-19, Thomas J. Henry hosted blood drives at his law firm’s office locations. He urged any employee who is feeling healthy and willing to donate to take time out of their workday in order to help combat blood shortages that had hit the Coastal Bend. Thomas J. Henry also worked with a San Antonio embroiderer to produce and distribute 1,000 handmade fabric masks to area medical centers and nonprofits.
In October, Thomas J. Henry pushed his team to develop a safe, socially-distanced way of conducting the firm’s annual Thomas J. Henry Bark in the Park Pet Costume Contest, an event that raises thousands of dollars for Corpus Christi and San Antonio no-kill animal shelters. Through innovation and careful planning, his firm was able to transfer the live event, typically attended by thousands of people, to an entirely virtual one in which contestants and “attendees” could actively participate in the event from the comfort of their own homes.
Similarly, Thomas J. Henry has worked with his firm to ensure its flagship event, the Thomas J. Henry Turkey Giveaway, would occur in a way that keeps those it is meant to serve safe and healthy. What is typically an annual gathering where thousands of turkeys are handed out to South Texas families will now occur as a drive-thru charity event requiring no direct contact between volunteers and recipients. Drive-thrus will be held in four Texas cities, Alice, San Diego, Robstown, and Freer, Saturday 21, 2020.
