Thomas J. Henry Law is Dedicated to Recovering Full Compensation for Burn Injury Victims

According to the American Burn Association, nearly 500,000 people are treated for burn injuries every year. Burn injuries come in many different forms and can be caused in several different ways. Depending on the severity and the cause, burn injuries can either be treated at home or require immediate emergency medical attention. Common causes of burn injuries include:

  • Fire or flames
  • Explosions
  • Scalding liquid
  • Hot surfaces
  • Electrical shock
  • Chemicals
  • Radiation

Unfortunately, it can take a long time to recover from a burn injury. After suffering the painful injury, burn victims require laborious and lengthy treatment, which may include surgery, skin grafts, and reconstructive procedures. After emergency medical care (oftentimes several rounds of surgeries), patients may require months or years of rehabilitation and occupational or physical therapy. In addition, the accident that caused the burn injury may have also caused psychological, emotional, or mental anguish that is further exacerbated by the sight of a burn scar.

During this entire process, medical bills and costs continue to pile up for the burn victim. Burn injuries oftentimes put people out of work due to the persistent pain, causing additional financial burdens for them and their families. At Thomas J. Henry Law, we are dedicated to our clients and their case. We can help injured clients get back on their feet by advancing money for living and medical costs. In addition, our clients don’t have to pay anything unless we win their case. We want to make sure our clients are comfortable and informed throughout the entire legal process as they focus on healing from their physical and emotional injuries.

Your Questions Answered

We have straight answers to difficult questions
to help you make critical decisions, navigate
legal process and help you get justice.

Following an accident, there are always more questions
than answers. At Thomas J. Henry, we’re here to answer
any questions you have about your injury case.

Texas is unique in that employers are allowed to opt-out of offering workers’ compensation; however, a caveat is that if an employer who does not offer workers' compensation is determined to be even 1% at fault for an employee’s injuries, they are liable for any and all resulting damages. A burn injury is a damage to the skin surface or deeper tissues, muscles, or bone. Burns can be most attributed to overexposure to sunlight, heated surfaces, and objects, boiling water, fires, or chemical radiation from acids.
There are three-degree levels of burns that indicate the severity of the damage done to the body. First-degree burns affect the first layer of skin and are not as severe. They are often caused by sunburns or light scalding and can be described as redness or tender swelling of the skin. Second-degree burns are more serious and reach through the outer layer of skin as well as the deeper dermis area. These cause painful blisters and need more treatment. Lastly, third-degree burns are the most severe and reach through all layers of the skin. These can cause nerve damage, charred skin, and need immediate surgery.
Burn injury payments and settlements are typically determined by the severity of the burn (degree level), the intentions of the perpetrator(s) responsible for the burn, and the amount that the perpetrator can pay.
Victims of burn injuries (plaintiffs) can receive compensation for the life-altering changes that come along with being burned. They can be physical damages like disfiguration, financial damages like medical bills and lost wages, or emotional damages like distress and mental anguish. The attorneys at Thomas J. Henry Law are dedicated to aiding plaintiffs through the physical and emotional tolls of facing burns so that they may receive the compensation they may be entitled to.
If there was gross negligence or intended actions of burning the victim at play, the individual burned can receive punitive damages. Usually, a jury decides this and it causes the perpetrator to pay a higher fee. Manufacturers who carelessly don't test their products can be subject to punitive damages from gross negligence.
Evidence that showcases someone who caused a burn injury upon another individual needs to be presented before a court. For instance, if someone using chemical substances on a person, like a hairdresser performing a perm on a client, burns an individual, the claim can be brought in the form of a lawsuit.
